Nichol M. Cleveland

Biography

Nichol Cleveland is a grants management specialist in the Grants Management Branch, Grants Section B, within NCATS’ Division of Extramural Activities, where she manages a portfolio of cooperative agreements, career awards, training grants, conference grants and various other research grants.

Prior to joining NCATS, Cleveland also served as a grants management specialist at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, where she managed several Opioid Response Grant programs. These included the Tribal, Rural, Practitioner and Education grants. Her areas of oversight included grants management and technical assistance.

Cleveland spent much her grants management career with the Department of Education, where she served in the Office Post-Secondary Education with the Higher Education Division as an Education Program Specialist. In that capacity, she managed a large portfolio of grants in the TRIO Program. It was through this experience that she was able to complete the Grants Management and Program Management Certificate Programs, respectively. She also served on several committees as an Employee Engagement Ambassador, Diversity Change Agent and completed the Ready-to-Lead Management training. She has also served as the agency Secretary for both Federally Employed Women and the agency’s veterans’ group.

In 2003, Cleveland received her M.Ed. from Troy University, in Troy Alabama, with a focus on social and political policy. Cleveland is a veteran of the U.S. Army and continues to support veterans’ services and groups.

Professional Interests

Cleveland enjoys learning and reading about new innovations and studies in women’s health, particularly veterans’ health. Since her undergraduate education concentrated in Women’s Studies, she took an interest and completed extra studies with the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a special emphasis and training with the Kapiolani Medical Center and Hawaii Women’s Healthcare.
