Patrick H. Brown

Biography

Patrick H. Brown is a program officer and chief of the Education and Training Section of the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program Branch within NCATS’ Division of Clinical Innovation, where he oversees a portfolio of CTSA Program grants. Prior to joining NCATS in December 2022, he served as a program officer in the Division of Training, Workforce Development and Diversity at the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS). Brown originally joined NIH in 2005 as a research fellow in the Intramural Research Program at the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB). In between his tenure at NIBIB and NIGMS, Brown taught chemistry in the Montgomery County, Maryland, public school system.

Brown earned his doctorate in chemistry and biochemistry from the University of Maryland.

Professional Interests

Brown has broad research interests ranging from basic research to more applied research, especially in the areas of chemistry and biophysical methods development. He is enthusiastic about learning more about data science and in applying what he learns in a rigorous manner to better inform decision-making in funding recommendations and the evaluation of progress in his grant portfolio.
