NCATS, a major research component of NIH, seeks applications from qualified candidates to fill a postdoctoral fellow (molecular biologist) position in the RNA Therapeutics Laboratory within its Division of Preclinical Innovation in Rockville, Maryland. As a member of a dynamic, dedicated and multidisciplinary team of researchers committed to developing therapies for rare disorders, the selected candidate will work on innovative drug discovery projects to develop antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) therapies that can benefit patients and families affected by rare diseases.
Core Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for designing and developing 2-D and organoid assays to predict various types of toxicity (e.g., neurotoxicity, hepatotoxicity) associated with ASO therapies. The fellow will design and conduct experiments, analyze data, write reports and present research findings at scientific meetings and in peer-reviewed publications. The selected candidate also will collaborate with other members of the research team, as well as external partners, to advance the goals of the RNA Therapeutics Laboratory.
Qualifications
Applicants should have (or expect to receive) a Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology or a related field at the time of joining the laboratory. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, collaborative and team-orientated, with a strong work ethic and keen attention to detail. The candidate should possess strong oral and written communication skills and a proven publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States for any employer.
Salary/Benefits
Annual stipends are commensurate with experience and based on the NIH Postdoctoral Intramural Research Training Award and Visiting Fellow scale; medical insurance coverage will be provided. The fellow also may participate in Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences courses at NIH. The position is renewable for up to 5 years.
